Practice Description

Mr. Hsieh focuses his practice on intellectual property in the chemical engineering and life sciences related fields. His work includes patent prosecution, trademark prosecution, infringement and patentability opinion work, due diligence and freedom to operate.

While in law school, Mr. Hsieh took extensive courses in IP-related subjects, including Patent, Trademark, Copyright, Patent Remedies and Defenses, and Antitrust laws. He also assisted Professor Paul Janicke in compiling data regarding patent infringement lawsuits across the United States. Mr. Hsieh has also worked for the firm on a part-time basis under attorney supervision.

Prior to law school, Mr. Hsieh worked as a patent engineer in Taiwan for more than 6 years, assisting major clients in prosecuting and establishing worldwide patent portfolio in consumer electronics, biosciences, and semiconductor fabrication fields. Additionally, he assisted in three pharmaceutical patent litigations in Taiwan by providing technical analysis on both infringement and validity of the asserted patents. Mr. Hsieh has also assisted on freedom to operate (FTO) work in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Mr. Hsieh’s experience in chemical engineering and biotechnology has included extensive work in the area of semiconductor fabrication, especially in manufacturing memory chips and LCD monitors, oil and gas exploration and refinement, fuel cells, landfill gas retrieval, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostics.
